Hi
Everyone,
Now that things have calmed down a bit with the Gale
transition, I thought I’d send an update about the problem with Internet
Explorer when using Gale through OSLIS. The issue can manifest itself in ways
like the following:
- not seeing the text of the article that was opened
- not getting a bottom scroll bar which means you can’t see some of the text on the right side of the screen
- not being able to switch among results tabs (Results sort into tabbed categories. The results in the first tab display as they should; the others, like Academic Journals and Multimedia, lead to an error message.)
- getting a message about being timed out of the session
- getting a message about needing to
log in again
The folks at Gale have uploaded two fixes and are working on a third. With each fix, the problem happens in fewer databases. Right now we think that Student Resource Center Gold is the only database still not working correctly with OSLIS and IE. Gale plans to upload the third fix around December 22nd.
If you experience problems related to this issue, please take a minute to send me the particulars:
Which database were
you using? (SRC Gold, InfoTrac Junior, PowerSearch [an
interface], etc.)
What is the text of the error message you
received?
What were you trying to do when the glitch occurred?
(watch a video clip, open an article in the 1st tab,
etc.)
Which version of IE (or other browser) are you using?
Which operating system and which version are you
using?
In the meantime, adding the bolded step below still works as a
temporary solution.
Go to www.oslis.org.
Choose a relevant
level.
Click on Find Information.
Click on any of
the Gale links.
Click on the “Open this resource in a new window”
link. (Towards the top left, just under “Switch
Sites”)
Do a search (or log in first and then do a search).
Thanks,
Jen
